Disable Search Box in Windows 10 Anniverary Update

There is no built-in group policy for removing the search box in the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (1607) as there was in Windows 10 1511, but it can be accomplished using the group policy registry editor.

In the user configuration, create a REG_DWORD called SearchboxTaskbarMode in the following location with a value of 1:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search

The taskbar keyboard icon can also be removed by setting a REG_DWORD called TipbandDesiredVisibility to 0 in the following location:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\TabletTip\1.7
